You will have been aware for some time of the plans for more recycling.
You should recently have received from East Suffolk Council "a detailed information pack explaining what items can go into each bin from 1st June", or will do so soon. With it, "you will receive a printed calendar showing your collection days for GENERAL waste (black [or grey???] lid); RECYCLING of glass, cartons, cans and plastic containers (blue lid); and PAPER & CARD (green lid)". This is a three-week cycle.
GARDEN-WASTE BINS
However, those who subscribe to the garden-waste collections should be aware that they remain on the existing fortnightly cycle (resulting effectively in a six-week bin-collection cycle), although the collection day will be Tuesday rather than Wednesday. Those collections don't appear on the published calendar, so you may wish to annotate it for the following dates —
Wed 27th May
Tue 9th June
Tue 23rd June
Tue 7th July
Tue 21st July
Tue 4th August
Tue 18th August
Tue 1st September
... etc ...
Alternatively, you may prefer to use the timetable below, which includes all four bins as well as the outdoor food caddy.
"The process of replacing every [completely green] garden-waste bin with a brown lid across East Suffolk starts in April with all garden-waste customers receiving a visit from the refitting crew over the next few months.
"The refitting of the new lid will ideally take place after your garden waste bin has been emptied, and as we are unable to give a specific date when the new lid will be fitted, please:
- Put your garden waste bin out as normal for collection (even if there is no waste to collect)
- Don’t rush to put your bin away after it has been emptied. Leave the bin out until the end of the working day as the refitting crew may come along later in the day.
- Don’t be concerned if your bin lid isn’t replaced on the same day as your neighbours. Just keep leaving your garden waste bin out on your normal collection day – we will come back to make the upgrade.
- On the rare occasion that your bin is damaged in the process of the lid replacement, we will leave a notification sticker and arrange for the delivery of a new bin."
SNAPE BIN COLLECTIONS TIMETABLE FROM 1st JUNE (including earlier impact)
This includes summary information distilled from a number of sources, and reveals that there will be no General bin-collection after next Wednesday (20th) until the third week of the new collection regime on Tuesday 16th, almost four weeks later. However, there will be Recycling bin collections in successive weeks, on Wednesday 27th May and Tuesday 2nd June, but under different rules. Under the new scheme, much more will be recyclable in the blue-topped bins — see the comprehensive "Frequently Asked Questions!" leaflet you received. The changeover period is highlighted below in a red box.
Once all has settled down, there will be a three-week cycle of GENERAL, RECYCLING and (the new) PAPER & CARD; the (almost) unbroken fortnightly cycle for GARDEN WASTE; and the new weekly collection from the outside FOOD CADDY. Typical cycles are highlighted below with a pink background.
The overlaying of three- and two-week cycles means that (for garden-waste subscribers) there will effectively be a six-week cycle, highlighted below with alternate yellow and white backgrounds.
You can download the timetable above by clicking upon it, to print, perhaps to pin up in your kitchen.
